Healthier Laundry Detergent

Just finished my first batch of homemade liquid laundry detergent! It was fast and easy and I suggest it to anyone. My friends kids make it, that is how easy it is and the money you will save is AMAZING! especially with teenagers. I think it works out to less than .50 cents a load, I haven't calculated that price yet but my friend has, she makes it by the 5 gallon bucket and her recipe is a little different but here is my recipe.

Ingredients:
Fels Naptha Bar
Washing Soda
Borax laundry booster

I grated a half bar of Fels Naptha and added that to about 8 cups of boiling water.
When that was melted I poured in a half cup of the Washing Soda and half cup of the Borax laundry booster and kept that on the stove but not on a boil. I kept stirring periodically until melted completely. This mixture will be thick, remove from stove and set aside.

I used plastic milk/water like jugs and and filled each with 11 cups of warm water and then poured the liquid laundry mixture into them, leaving room enough at the top of the jugs so that I can mix them or shake them periodically for the next 24 hours.

This is so easy and quick to make, and fun! I would love for your feed back if trying this recipe.

All ingredients can be bought at an Ace hardware store.

  1. Hey Herban Chica, How much of the laundry mix do you add to each gallon jug? Thanx!

  2. One gallon container holds 16 cups, so since I actually didn't measure the amount of the mixture added to the water I am guessing it was about 3 1/2 to 4 cups.
I see that you are in Gilbert, I am holding a class on making your "green" cleaning products on the 28th if you are interested or know anyone who might be. Check out my website and click on "indoor classes" www.EarthWisdomSite.com
